Typical Feed Rates — Open Bowl (2,400G to 3,000G)
| Fluid | Flow Rate (GPH) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Biodiesel (finished) | 40 | Free water drained first |
| Diesel fuel polishing | 40 | Free water drained first |
| WVO — biodiesel feedstock | 25 | |
| WVO — direct fuel use | 15–20 | |
| WMO — fuel use | 10–20 | |
| Transmission fluid | 15–25 | |
| Lube oil (for reuse) | 8–12 | Blend 50/50 with fresh oil after cleaning |
| Hydraulic oil (for reuse) | 10–25 | |
| Crankcase oil (for reuse) | 8–12 | Best at 20,000 G; blend with fresh oil |
NEVER introduce liquid into an empty bowl at full speed. Always fill rapidly during spin-up acceleration.
Special Cases
Emulsified (Brown or Milky) Oil
- Process temperature must exceed 200°F to break emulsion
- Reduce feed rate to the low end of the range
- Alternative: blend with 15% gasoline and settle for two weeks before centrifuging
Crankcase Oil for Reuse
Process at 20,000 G. Expect ~6% additive package loss. Blend 50/50 with fresh oil. Shell Rotella T recommended for blending due to its robust additive package.
Feed Rate and G-Force Loading
G-force and hydraulic drag both increase with the square of rotor speed. Doubling the feed rate doubles rotor drag. US Filtermaxx centrifuges use a 1.5 HP motor to handle heavy loading from high viscosity oils and fast feed rates. Variable-speed models let you fine-tune for any combination of viscosity and throughput.
