    Hose & Fitting Selection Guide

Camlock and NPT-threaded fittings look similar at a glance, but every one of them has two different ends — and picking the wrong one means a hose that won't connect. This guide shows exactly what's on each end of every fitting we stock, so you can order with confidence the first time.

    The Basics

Three kinds of connection show up on every hose assembly. Knowing which is which is the whole trick.

    Barb + Hose Clamp

The standard way a hose attaches to a fitting: the fitting's barbed, ridged nose pushes into the hose, and a wire-style hose clamp tightens around the outside to hold it — removable, so the fitting can be swapped out later. The only other way to attach a fitting is to swage/crimp it on with a crimping machine instead of a clamp — that bonds the fitting to the hose permanently, so it can't be removed or reused.

    Camlock Quick-Connect

A lever-arm coupling that connects and disconnects by hand — no tools, no threads. Every camlock fitting is either the male half (a smooth grooved nose) or the female half (a socket with two pivoting arms that lock over the male nose).

    NPT Threaded

A screw-together pipe thread — male NPT is an external thread that screws into something, female NPT is an internal thread that something screws into. Used to thread a fitting straight into a pump or tank port.

    Finishing a Hose End

Every hose end starts with a barb and a clamp. From there, there are two ways to finish it out, depending on what you're connecting to.

Path 1 — Straight to Camlock

    Hose→Barbed End x Camlock End

Requires 1 hose clamp. The simplest option. A Male Camlock Adapter or Female Camlock Coupler's barbed end pushes onto the hose and clamps on — no extra adapter needed. The hose is now ready to quick-connect to any matching camlock fitting.

Path 2 — Through an NPT Thread

Hose→Barbed End x NPT Thread→NPT Pump Port or NPT x Camlock

Requires 1 hose clamp. The barbed end pushes onto the hose and clamps on; the fitting's other end is an NPT thread that either screws straight into a pump/tank port, or screws into a camlock NPT adapter to add quick-connect further down the line.

Verify your pump port before ordering. Most pump ports are Female NPT, but some use a multi-bolt (round) flange instead — a flanged port needs a separate flange adapter, not a threaded one.
Prefer camlock at the pump when you can. Threading a hose fitting straight into the pump port (NPT direct) is best kept for a pump that's mounted permanently in one place. In most other cases, running a camlock connection to the pump instead is the better call — it lets the hose disconnect quickly for service, storage, or moving the pump.

    Fitting Types at a Glance

Every fitting has two different ends. Here's exactly what's on each side of every type we stock.

Male Camlock Adapter, Type E, barb x male camlock

    Male Camlock Adapter

    Type E · "Hose Shank"

    Side 1

Barb — hose pushes on, clamp secures it

    Side 2

Male Camlock — smooth nose, plugs into a Female Coupler

    Needs 1 hose clamp
Female Camlock Coupler, Type C, barb x female camlock

    Female Camlock Coupler

    Type C · "Female Coupler"

    Side 1

Barb — hose pushes on, clamp secures it

    Side 2

Female Camlock — socket + 2 lever arms, locks over a Male Adapter

    Needs 1 hose clamp
Male Camlock Adapter, Type F, male camlock x male NPT

    Male Camlock Adapter

Type F · "Male NPT Adapter"

    Side 1

Male Camlock — plugs into the hose's Female Coupler end

    Side 2

Male NPT — external thread, screws INTO a pump/tank port

Never touches the hose directly — no clamp needed
Male Camlock Adapter, Type A, male camlock x female NPT

    Male Camlock Adapter

Type A · "Female NPT Adapter"

    Side 1

Male Camlock — plugs into the hose's Female Coupler end

    Side 2

Female NPT — internal thread, a male-threaded pipe or pump port screws INTO it

Never touches the hose directly — no clamp needed
    Female Camlock Cap, Type DC

    Female Camlock Cap

    Type DC · "Dust Cap"

    Single-Ended

Locking cap — the same 2 pivoting lever arms as a Female Coupler lock over a disconnected Male Camlock nose to keep dirt out. Doesn't attach to a hose or pump — it's a protective cover only.

Not used with a hose clamp
    Male Camlock Plug, Type DP

    Male Camlock Plug

    Type DP · "Dust Plug"

    Single-Ended

Push-in plug that blocks a disconnected Female Coupler's open socket to keep dirt out. Doesn't attach to a hose or pump — it's a protective cover only.

Not used with a hose clamp

    Matching Ends

A fitting only connects to its opposite. Use this to confirm what you need before you order.

Both of our NPT adapters (Type A and Type F) are Male Camlock on the open side — so they mate with a Female Camlock Coupler hose end, not a Male Camlock Adapter hose end.
